Machine Learning of Musical Gestures
We present an overview of machine learning (ML) techniques and their application in interactive music and new digital instrument design. We first provide the non-specialist reader an introduction to two ML tasks, classification and regression, that are particularly relevant for gestural interaction. We then present a review of the literature in current NIME research that uses ML in musical gest...
متن کاملMusical Gestures and Audio Effects Processing
We introduce the notion of musical gestures as time varying measurements which identify the audio input stream’s musical skeleton without attempting to implement any involved model of musical understanding. Living comfortably at an intermediate level of abstraction between wave forms and music transcriptions, these musical gestures are used to control the behavior of an audio processing module....

Visualizing Gestures in the Control of a Digital Musical Instrument
Conceiving digital musical instruments might be challenging in terms of spectator accessibility. Depending on the interface and the complexity of the software used as a transition between the controller and sound, a musician performance can be totally opaque for the audience and lose part of its interest. This paper examines the possibility of adding a visual feedback to help the public underst...
متن کاملUsing Motiongrams in the Study of Musical Gestures
Navigating hours of video material is often time-consuming, and traditional keyframe displays are not particularly useful when studying single-shot studio recordings of music-related movement. This paper presents the idea of motiongrams and how we use such displays in our studies of dancers’ free move-
